AMON AMARTH To Begin Work On Follow-Up To 'Jomsviking'
August 21, 2017Swedish death metallers AMON AMARTH are preparing to begin writing material for their eleventh studio album. The follow-up to 2016's "Jomsviking" will mark the band's first release with drummer Jocke Wallgren, who officially joined the group last September. Prior to that, Jocke had been sitting behind the kit for all shows on the band's "Jomsviking" world tour.
Speaking to Antihero Magazine's Matt Mills at this year's Bloodstock Open Air festival, AMON AMARTH guitarist Johan Söderberg stated about the band's plans for the coming months (hear audio below): "After this summer, we're done touring with this album. That's when we're gonna start to write stuff for the next one."
Asked if AMON AMARTH is the kind of band that works on new music while on tour, Söderberg said: "We actually never wrote anything on the road before. But on this summer run we have now, we actually just bought a little computer and sound interface that we actually can write on tour if we feel like it. But we haven't really started [yet]."
"Jomsviking" debuted at No. 19 on The Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales of 21,000 equivalent album units. Released on March 25, 2016 via Metal Blade in North America and Sony Music internationally, the first concept record in AMON AMARTH's storied career tells a tragic tale of love and revenge, backed by the Swedes' trademark melodic, anthemic metal, which was produced and mixed once again by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, ACCEPT). The epic original story is set in the world of the Jomsvikings, the legendary order of mercenary Vikings.
